Our Journey in Interior Design

Their vision is to provide a personalised, client-focused approach to interior design, crafting spaces that are as unique as their clients.

Exploring St Johns Wood

Historical Background

St Johns Wood is one of London's most picturesque and affluent areas, known for its leafy streets, elegant architecture, and historical significance.

The area was originally part of the Great Middlesex Forest and was developed in the early 19th century. It quickly became a desirable location for Londoners looking to escape the congestion of the city centre.

Architectural Design

The architectural landscape of St Johns Wood is diverse and rich in history. The area is renowned for its grand villas and spacious houses, many of which feature classical and Regency-style architecture.

These homes are characterised by their elegant proportions, large windows, and intricate detailing. In contrast, there are also modern developments that blend seamlessly with the historic surroundings, offering a perfect balance of old and new.

One of the architectural highlights of St Johns Wood is the presence of the famous Abbey Road Studios, immortalised by The Beatles. The area's charm lies in its ability to preserve its historical roots while embracing contemporary design.

Explore our Projects in St Johns Wood

At Black and Milk, we take pride in transforming interiors into bespoke, luxurious spaces that reflect our clients' unique tastes and lifestyles. As interior designers St John's Wood, one of our standout projects showcases our ability to blend contemporary design with vintage elements, creating a home that is both stylish and welcoming.

Fitzroy Residential Apartment

Appointed by a modern family with two young children, we were tasked with creating a warm and inviting interior design scheme for their newly refurbished Victorian semi-detached house in Primrose Hill.

The property had been recently upgraded by a property developer, but the interior felt unwelcoming and plain. Our goal was to develop and install a tailored, cosy design scheme that brought character and warmth to the home.

Key Features:

  • Chinese Rug as a Design Catalyst: One of the creative challenges was incorporating a traditional Chinese rug, a cherished vintage purchase by the client, into the living room.

This rug inspired the selection of fabrics and vintage pieces throughout the room, setting the tone for the overall design.

  • Transitional Style: While the house featured a modern architectural frame, our interior design scheme introduced a transitional style.

We layered contemporary bases with mid-century inspired curves and warm finishes, juxtaposed with vintage collections to reflect the client's personality.

Thoughtful Spatial Design

A key focus was the living room's spatial design. We cleverly split the space into two areas, allowing the furniture to create conversation pits.

A multifunctional bench served as a soft divide between seating areas, anchoring the room and facilitating conversations on either side.

The master bedroom integrated the client's existing king-size bed, bedside tables, and armchair. The room's aesthetic is elegant and traditional, with American influences and British accents. Neutral tones and cosy luxury fabrics create a relaxed environment.
